Training for the SRC

The Short Range Certificate (SRC) is the internationally recognised radio licence for VHF maritime radio within GMDSS Sea Area A1. It is mandatory for operating yachts equipped with VHF radio and provides all essential knowledge for safe and correct radio communication at sea.

Exam Content

The course includes all topics required for the theoretical and practical examination:

  • GMDSS fundamentals and legal regulations
  • Operation of VHF radio equipment (DSC & voice communication)
  • Distress, urgency, and safety messages
  • Routine traffic and radio discipline
  • MMSI, ATIS, channels, ranges
  • Practical exercises on real or simulated radio equipment

Course Structure

The training is clearly organised and prepares you specifically for the exam:

  • Theory lessons on GMDSS, radio regulations, and procedures
  • Practical exercises on VHF radios and DSC controllers
  • Simulation of distress and safety messages

Requirements

  • Minimum age: 15 years (exam at 16)
  • No prior knowledge required
