Training for the UBI

The VHF Certificate for Inland Waterways (UBI) is required when recreational vessels on inland waterways are equipped with a VHF radio. The training provides all essential knowledge for safe and correct radio communication on rivers, canals, and lakes.

Exam Content

The course includes all topics required for the theoretical and practical examination:

  • Legal foundations of inland VHF radio
  • Operation of inland VHF radio equipment
  • Distress, urgency, and safety messages
  • Routine traffic and radio discipline
  • ATIS identifiers and channel usage
  • Practical exercises on real or simulated radio equipment
